Dr. Pizzo began his report by introducing Dr. Lori Burns, Director of Early Childhood Education, and members of her team who highlighted the inaugural first year of the preschool program in the district. Preschool students, along with their teachers, demonstrated lessons learned during the school year called, The Mighty Minute.
Next. Dr. Pizzo introduced Mr. David Nash, Esq., of NJPSAFEA Legal One, who provided a presentation to the board on confidentiality and the law for board of education members. A link to Mr. Nash's presentation can be
found here.
Finally, Dr. Pizzo addressed the difficult budget reductions that have led to the loss of valued staff of programs such as Theater, Virtual Enterprise, and also expressed his support for Drama and Improv Clubs. While these changes were necessary to align revenues with expenses, he emphasized the district’s ongoing commitment to hiring the best educators and advocating for sustainable funding solutions.
Dr. Pizzo invited the community to upcoming public outreach events to discuss pathways forward and stressed the importance of collective advocacy to fund and sustain new initiatives. He also provided an update on the crematorium legislation, noting progress has stalled at the state level and encouraging continued community engagement.
He closed with a reminder of the district’s potential and the importance of working together for a stronger future.
