FAQ

  • You can notify the Transportation Department. Please have the following information ready: child’s name, school of attendance, stop location and route #.

  • Parents must contact the Transportation Department at least 24-48 hours before such change can occur.  Please email the Transportation Supervisor your request.  You must provide the students name, friends name, bus information and a contact person who will be supervising the children.

  • The district will send out commuication regarding school closures, delays to opening or early dismissal through ParentSquare via email, text message and phone call. Information will also be posted on the district Facebook page and the website.

  • Delayed opening is 90 minutes later than the regular scheduled school time. Buses will pick up students at their regularly assigned bus stops 90 minutes (1 ½ hours) later than the regularly scheduled pick up time. Please be on the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to your student’s scheduled pick up time.

  • Bus drivers have a special license called a “CDL”, (commercial drivers license). Applicants for a bus driver license must have a safe driving record with no criminal convictions, pass a special CDL physical, pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test, have fingerprints taken for both State and Federal review, have a promise of employment from a school district or a contractor, and take a series of written tests before obtaining a permit. The written test requires the applicant to have knowledge of bus inspection, pupil safety, and braking procedures.

Bus drivers are required to have thirty (30) hours of behind the wheel training, learn how to inspect a bus for safety issues before going out on the road, (pre-trip inspection), and take a driving test in the vehicle they will be using.

Once all of this is complete and the license issued, the drivers are still required to be part of a yearly random drug/alcohol testing, a license review every 6 months, have a CDL physical every two years, and be fingerprinted every time their license is renewed.

  • All school vehicles are required by law to have a quarterly maintenance, (oil, fluids, brakes, etc.), and a twice yearly 900 point State Inspection by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The inspection process not only includes the bus but also all paper work associated with the vehicle, (purchases for parts and fluids, repair requests and results of repair, review of quarterly maintenance records, and all driver records).

Buses either get a new 6-month sticker, a 30-day repair notice, or a red sticker which means the bus is off the road.

  • The following is a guideline of steps to take:

    • Ask another child if they remember seeing your child on the bus.
    • Call the Transportation Department 632-0910 x 2213.
    • Remain at your child’s bus stop.
    • Stay in contact with the Transportation Department.

Bus contractors have set guidelines for their drivers when such situations occur; the following are the District’s Guidelines that have been forwarded to all contractors that service Robbinsville Schools:

All PK-3 grade and special education students must be met by an adult at the end of the school day.

If for some reason an adult is not present for a PK-3 student, the driver must inform their office who will then contact the Transportation Department. The driver must continue dropping off the other children and then circle back to the child’s stop. The driver may not release the child to anyone (other than the adult who is normally at the stop to receive the child) without the permission from the Transportation Department.

  • If your child happens to get on the wrong bus, the bus driver will notify his/her dispatcher. The contractor will then contact the Transportation Department. The Transportation Department will have the driver continue through his/her route and then return the child to his/her school. School administration will already have been Informed and they will call the parent to have the child picked up at school.

  • If you are moving you must contact the Centeral Registration Department at 609-632-0910 (2271) to complete the necessary paperwork.   Upon completion, these forms should be handed in to the Central Registration Department.  Please note that the Transportation Department CANNOT accept address changes.  We can not change your child's bus stop until all paperwork has been received to the Central Registration Department.

Please feel free to contact the Transportation Department at 609-632-0910 (2213) with any questions and/or concerns.

Subscription Busing FAQ

  • New Jersey state law (N.J.S.A. 18A: 39-1.8) permits a local Board of Education to provide transportation on a “subscription basis" to pupils who would, according to existing guidelines, not be eligible for school bus transportation to and from school. Subscription busing allows the Board of Education to provide transportation for a fee. Please note, bus stops will be based off the population of those requesting subscription busing and can be placed up to 0.5 miles from residence.

  • All resident public elementary school students (grades Pre-K to 8) who live more than 2 miles from their school and all public secondary students (grades 9-12) who live more than 2 ½ miles from their school are entitled to transportation. These students are said to live “remote from school.”

  • All students not eligible for busing can apply for subscription busing on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Measurement is made by the shortest distance along public roadways or walkways between the entrance to the student’s home closest to the roadway or walkway to the nearest public entrance of the school.

  • The cost for the 2026-2027 school year is $1350.00. The final cost will be determined by the board of education and seat availability for a 54-passenger bus. Once a bus pass has been issued to a student, refunds will not be made.

  • Yes, a $500 deposit will be required by Friday, May 15th to hold your seat. Students who qualify for free and reduced the deposit will be $125. Refunds of the deposit will only be made if the request happens before the issuance of the bus pass. Once the bus pass is issued there will be no refunds.

  • How many students sign up will determine how many buses we will need for the new year, and the district must bid for new routes each year. Bidding determines how much each bus costs, therefore that will determine what the cost of subscription busing will be for that school year. The bid process is a lengthy process and can take up to a month for a bid opening to occur. It is critical that May 15th is a hard deadline, and applications received after that point will be placed on a wait list if space is available.

  • Boards of education are not required to provide busing for students solely for hazardous routes. Districts are permitted to charge the students' parents or legal guardians for this service. Municipalities may also contract with boards of education for this service and charge parents. The term for transportation services that require a fee is called subscription busing.

  • Parents will be notified by the begining of August if their child receives transportation for the school year. Bus passes will be issued by the middle of August. Applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Bus stops can be located within half a mile of the students' homes. Bus passes will be available in late August. To protect students’ identity bus stops will not be announced in advance.  Bus stops will be corner stops for efficiency of bus loading and to reduce the number of stops.

  • Every student is required to always carry their bus passes. Random checks will be performed to make sure that only students who are subscribed are allowed on that bus.  Students who ride and do not belong will be issued fines and up to disciplinary actions determined by the building administration.

  • As prior to subscription bussing, parents/guardians are responsible for your child getting to and from school in a safe manner.

  • Students who receive free and reduced lunch are still able to apply for subscription busing at a reduced cost. The cost will be 25% of the total cost for the 2026-2027 school year and the fee is $337.50.

  • The district does not offer an after-school bus, and we will not transport your child home after clubs or sports. They must make alternative arrangements for pick up.

  • Bus passes are not transferrable!

  • The fee for subscription busing will be non-refundable after a bus pass has been issued.

  • Students who ride a school bus are expected to follow the school bus regulations provided below:

    • Students must arrive at the school bus stop at least 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive and must be well-mannered while waiting for the school bus to arrive.
    • Students must not stand in the street or at the curb while waiting for the school bus to arrive.
    • Students must board and depart from the school bus in a single file.
    • Students must obey the directions from the school bus driver.
    • Students must be seated at all times and seatbelts must be worn.
    • Students may not distract the bus driver while the bus is moving.
    • Students may not open or close the windows of the bus without the permission of the bus driver.
    • Students must not throw an object out of the bus and must keep all body parts inside the bus at all times.
    • Students may not place any objects in the aisle of the school bus, such as coats, jackets, books, etc.

Violations of any regulations will result in disciplinary action that may include suspension of bus privileges and forfeiture of the subscription fee.
