May 4, 2020: Governor's Plan, End of Year, etc.

May 4, 2020

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Earlier today Governor Murphy announced that all New Jersey public schools will stay closed for the remainder of the school year.  He went on to say that all New Jersey schools will continue to operate remotely. Obviously, we are disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to reconnect with our students in person this year. However, we understand and appreciate the Governor’s decision to keep our students safe and healthy. Since we did not utilize the two inclement weather days built into the calendar and in keeping with the 180 day school day requirement (N.J.S.A. 18A:7F-9), Robbinsville’s official last day of remote learning will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 (rather than Friday, June 19th as indicated on the 2010-2020 district calendar).

We will continue to follow the structured schedule that is currently in place for the remainder of the school year and, as you may know, we plan to send out a survey to students, parents, and staff within the next few weeks to gather feedback for future virtual learning experiences.

We know that as the school year winds down you may have questions around year end protocols. For instance, many students have textbooks, instructional materials, and chromebooks that will need to be returned.  Additionally, students may also need to pick up materials left at school.  Information will be forthcoming regarding a pick up/return schedule for grade levels and buildings as well as other year end processes.  Please also know that the building administration and staff are working behind the scenes to design new ways of celebrating the end-of-year student milestones. Our building principals will forward more specific information outlining these events in the days to come.

Governor Murphy has organized a task force of various stakeholders to determine how schools may offer summer programs including Extended School Year and Jumpstart.  When we receive more guidance, we will communicate with you.

In the meantime, we thank you for your continued support and willingness to pitch in as needed to help our children continue to learn and grow.

Appreciatively,

Kathie Foster
