March 16, 2020: Protocol & Other Tips

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Thank you for your support and understanding during this unprecedented time. Like you, we are learning and adjusting as we go. Please know how much we appreciate your flexibility as we navigate the complexities of educating our children remotely. Our district administration will be available throughout this closure to provide support and answer questions. A list of frequent district contacts is available here. Don’t hesitate to reach out as needed; we are here to help. We will also work to provide regular updates during the closure.

If you experience a technical issue as we activate remote learning for instruction, please use the email address below to reach out to our tech team. Our technology specialists are committed to responding and troubleshooting as needed.  Please email them at: ‚Äč

Completion of daily assignments will serve as our students’ proof of attendance each day. If your child is sick and unable to complete his or her work, please treat it as you would an absence from school by calling the attendance office or by entering an absence in Genesis. Resources for Families

We are all struggling to adapt to the new reality of the COVID-19.  As each household determines how to best juggle schedules and the needs of each family member, we have gathered some additional resources that might assist you in this regard.  Topics include Managing Stress and Anxiety and Activities to do at Home as well as a wide variety of Educational Resources

Social Distancing

Many children are, by nature, hardwired for sociability. One of the challenges we face in the days ahead is teaching our children (and recognizing ourselves) the importance of social distancing. We understand how difficult it is to replace old habits with new habits. If your child proposes meeting a group of his or her friends for study purposes, we encourage you to suggest Facetime or Skype as alternatives to in-person meetings.
Employee Letter

It has come to our attention that some employers require an official district communication indicating that school is closed for employees to be able to work from home.  If a letter of this type would be helpful in your circumstance, please access it here.
Wednesday, March 18th Board Meeting and Preliminary Budget Adoption

In order to ensure that our vendors are paid and we meet the deadline to submit the preliminary 2020-2021 budget, we plan to hold the monthly board meeting as scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2020. However, due to the CDC recommendation prohibiting gatherings of more than 50 people and in order to keep our board members and employees healthy and safe, we have set up a teleconferencing system through WebEx.  This will allow audience members to participate remotely. More details will be sent out in a separate email.
You have probably heard that Governor Murphy will require all public schools in New Jersey to close as of Wednesday, March 18th, 2020. Once this happens, we will be closely monitoring additional recommendations that may arise. Again, please know we are working with you to support our children and one another.

With gratitude,

Kathie Foster, Superintendent
